Do you know what to do if you're concerned about your health after a sexual encounter?
On June 17, 2026, an open and interactive educational session was held at the Yerevan Drop-In Center, organized by Dignity Humanitarian NGO and facilitated by Levon Chilingaryan, HIV and Sexual Health Specialist.
This time, we talked about topics that many people are often hesitant to discuss, yet they are directly connected to their health, safety, and well-being.
- What does safer sex actually mean?
- What should you do if a condom breaks or if sex occurs without protection?
- What is PrEP and who can benefit from it?
- What is PEP, and why does every hour matter after potential exposure?
- How can the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) be reduced?
Throughout the session, participants actively engaged in discussions, shared concerns, explored real-life scenarios, and received clear, practical, and evidence-based information.
One of the key messages of the session was:
If you find yourself in a high-risk situation, don't panic — but don't wait either.
Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) can significantly reduce the risk of HIV infection if started as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after potential exposure.
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is also available free of charge in Armenia for individuals who want to proactively protect themselves from HIV.
Many participants were surprised to learn that the following services are available in Armenia free of charge:
- HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
- HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
- Free and confidential HIV testing and counseling
- Free Hepatitis B vaccination
- Free Hepatitis C treatment
The session once again demonstrated that when a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment is created, people are willing to ask questions, seek reliable information, and make informed decisions about their health.
